USAID and the Government of Ethiopia are increasingly interested in investing in the early years. Through the Together for Early Childhood Evidence consortium in Africa, ECE stakeholders in Ethiopia collaborate on early childhood data and measurement issues in the country.

The Ethiopia country team has been meeting since 2019 to discuss data and measurement issues in Ethiopia. The team completed the CPDMA Diagnostic Toolkit to prioritize key questions that data can answer in Ethiopia, summarize existing data sources, and start to identify how data can inform the Ministry’s new ECD Policy Framework.

The Ethiopia team identified inaccessible and fragmented data as a core challenge in Ethiopia.  In 2021, the Together for Early Childhood Evidence country team launched a research project with the Ethiopian School Readiness Initiative (ESRI) to create a repository for ECE and ECD data and resources. With ESRI, the team will consult with local ECE and ECD stakeholders to compile existing resources and data to create a knowledge hub for good practice in early childhood education development. The project will create an online platform for collaboration and learning for early childhood stakeholders in Ethiopia and expects to be completed by the middle of 2022.
