This study on small and growing businesses (SGBs) in Uganda and Nigeria offers insights and recommendations on financing enterprises in emerging and frontier markets. SGBs play a vital role in many emerging economies, contributing significantly to economic growth and employment creation.
This study will help to:
Address the definition and classification challenges and offer a framework to segment the SGB market.
Examine the demand-side needs and challenges as well as the availability of financing and factors that constrict the supply of financing to enterprises.
Explain obstacles to financing and propose recommendations on a way forward.
The findings presented in this report are intended to provide evidence for key stakeholders, including providers of capital, policymakers, development partners, and SGBs working toward bridging SGBs financing gaps. The study was carried out under the leadership of the Makerere University Business School (MUBS)’s Entrepreneurship Centre in Uganda.
